Tuesday, October 11th, was the 60th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, otherwise known as Vatican II. When Saint Pope John XXIII announced that Vatican II would take place, he stated that, “the Catholic Church is set apart and distinguished by these three characteristics: unity of doctrine, unity of organization, unity of worship”. Last Tuesday, on this historic anniversary in the life of the Church, the City of Redlands’ Planning Commission unanimously approved our building project. This means that we will now finalize construction drawings in order for us to move forward and break ground at our new home at Lugonia and Dearborn next year. Thanks be to God! As we prepare to break ground, we will keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, I ask all of you to enter more fully into our parish theme, “Be Transformed”. Let us we pray and work together as we strive for a greater “unity of organization” in practical matters so as to prepare for a “unity of worship” under one roof at our future home. For updates, please visit our Building Page's FAQ section: Building Project Updates.
Brothers and sisters, Last October, Bishop Rojas opened the Diocesan Synod in response to Pope Francis’ invitation to a worldwide Synod of Bishops in 2023. At that time I shared with you some introductory information. In the weeks to come our Diocese and Parish will begin the work of the Synod through use of listening sessions. I will share with you in the coming weeks how we will take the steps to reach out, not only to the faithful of our parish, but to those who for whatever reason have left the practice of the Catholic faith...

Santo Niño History: Christianity was first brought to the Philippine islands by Spanish missionaries and settlers, who arrived in waves beginning in the early 16th century. It all began when an image of the Holy Child, called the Santo Niño, was given as a baptismal gift to the local chief's wife by Spanish explorers led by Portuguese-born Ferdinand Magellan. Rajah Humabon, his wife and hundreds of his native warriors agreed to accept Christianity and were consequently baptized. Magellan planted a cross to signify this important event about the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith in what is now Cebu, As of 2019, Philippines was the third largest Catholic country in the world (the first two being Brazil and Mexico). In 2021 Filipinos celebrated 500 years of Christian presence in the Philippines with Pope Francis commemorating March 16, the day Magellan introduced Catholicism in the island. Feast of Sto. Nino, the Holy Child, is one of the annual sponsored events of THNJ Filipino Ministry celebrated on the 4th Sunday of January. The Filipino Ministry is looking forward to seeing you there. ALL attendees are invited to share and experience our Filipino Hospitality. We will be observing CDC guidelines - please wear a mask. Food will be served in TO GO boxes as an option.
On November 14, 2020, internationally renowned Catholic artist, Vivian Imbruglia, explained how creating an icon is a form of prayer that is written rather than painted. Vivian also shared several images of Our Blessed Mother Mary inspired by apparitions that have occurred in countries around the world, such as Rwanda. All in attendance received an opportunity to win one of two original icons from Vivian - St Joseph and the Child Jesus, and, the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This was a very special evening - the first in Holy Name's Grateful Year Speaker Series.

Take a virtual step onto our future parish and school campus at Lugonia Ave and Dearborn St in Redlands, CA... a sacred space where we will thrive and glorify the Most Holy Name of Jesus into the next century.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, you and I have carried the gospel forth in many ways, and this includes our efforts to build a new campus for Christ. Last May, we submitted the completed Conditional Use Permit Application to the City for approval. The Fire Department then requested a minor change to improve access for emergency vehicles; this change was submitted and approved. In addition to approvals from City departments, our project also requires approval from Caltrans because Lugonia Ave is actually part of State Hwy 38. At this time, Caltrans and the City planners are working to resolve matters about the campus entrance on Lugonia Ave. May Our Lady the Undoer of Knots, help these good people find a resolution that moves our project forward quickly! We will keep you apprised of developments with the City. As we await further news, let us continue to step forward in mission to invite, nourish, and form our hearts and minds to glorify Christ’s Holy Name in word and in deed.
Recently, due to the delta variant of Covid-19, the CDC is once again recommending the use of masks for personal health and safety while indoors. As a community we have always remained vigilant and cooperative when considering the safety of our members. While we support as a safety measure the CDC recommendation of wearing a mask when indoors, we will not mandate it’s use at Holy Name of Jesus in Redlands at this time. However, parishioners who wish to wear masks indoors are welcome to do so. Reminder: If you are ill, please stay home and worship with us on YouTube. After months of living with the ongoing threat of Covid-19, let us remember we are at our strongest when we are united in prayer and worship. We will continue to keep you informed and updated on any changes as we journey forward together. Thank you for being a member of our flock!

With the help of the Holy Spirit, you and I have carried the gospel forth throughout the pandemic in many ways, and this includes our efforts to build a new campus for Christ. Although the pandemic closures significantly slowed the application process, we recently finished the final requirements and submitted the complete Conditional Use Permit Application to the City. The City will review it and decide whether they will require additional work from us, or send it forward to the Planning Commission for review and approval. We will keep you apprised of developments with the City. May the Holy Spirit inspire the City to move our project forward! How fitting that this step in the building process happens at Pentecost – the “time that is ready for something to happen.” As we together step into a post-pandemic reality, let us be ready and open to the Spirit’s movement to renew our hearts in mission and inspire our future.
This month, the Mass seems a little more like it was before the pandemic... we are again processing forward to receive Holy Communion, placing our monetary offerings in the collection basket, and more! Are you concerned or confused about what to expect during Mass? Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) feature on the Home Page of our parish website! There you will find...
