Do you have a heart for the Gospel and interacting with children ages 1st-6th grade? |
The Holy Name of Jesus’ Family Faith Formation office is currently seeking English speaking and/or Bilingual adults and teens 14 years and older who are interested in teaching the Gospel to the children of our parish during Sunday morning Mass. |
After this pandemic of 2020, we look forward to having the children join us for Children's Liturgy of the Word! It can't come soon enough.
Until we are safe, remain strong as a family, a Domestic Church, by praying and worshipping with us 'live' online or in person. Create a prayer space at your home to encourage daily prayer. Above are Malachi's, Xaviers and Jonathans.
Our Catholic Church invites all of us to full, conscious, and active participation in the Mass each week. This can be challenging for young children because they may not understand the words, symbols, and actions of the Mass.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word, also known as CLOW, gives our parish children a weekly opportunity to learn about and actively participate in the Mass. We do this by sharing more personal and simpler versions of the Sunday readings and a simple teaching. We also encourage the children’s participation with songs, discussions, activities, and opportunities to lead or help. Our goal is to provide our children with a greater understanding of their Catholic faith by empowering them to actively celebrate the Mass.
If Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is held during the Mass, how does CLOW work?
Children begin Mass seated with their families.
Following the Opening Prayer of Mass, the priest calls the Catechists and children up to the altar for a blessing; then the Catechists lead the children out of the church to the Parish Hall.
There, the Sunday readings are proclaimed using texts suited to children’s comprehension levels. The children also sing the Psalm. After the Gospel is proclaimed, a short homily reflection leads into the catechetical teaching. CLOW concludes with the Creed and child-friendly Prayers of the Faithful.
During the Preparation of the Gifts and Offertory, the catechists lead the children back to the church, where they rejoin their families and the larger faith community to celebrate the rest of the Mass.
Children in grades 1st - 6th are invited to participate in CLOW during these Mass times:
Columbia Site: 10:30 am Sunday Mass (Bilingual)
Olive Site: 10:00 am Sunday Mass (English)
12:00 pm Sunday Mass (Bilingual)
We long to offer Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) at every Mass; however, CLOW is subject to catechist volunteers. Please join us as a catechist volunteer so that many more children may come to love Jesus and know Him in the Mass. Contact Martha Plumb at 909-798-4167, ext 136 or at [email protected]
